    Capsicum

Ranging from the spicy chili pepper varieties to the mild and flavorful bell peppers, capsicum is a versatile ingredient used in a variety of dishes worldwide. The plants are a type of fruit belonging to the Solanaceae family. They can be red, yellow, orange or green colored. In Sri Lanka, they are grown throughout the year in low to mid-high altitudes.

Some varieties of capsicum are mildly sweet and savory and can be enjoyed raw as a low-calorie snack. The piquant kind, also known as chili peppers, features a chemical called capsaicin, which causes a burning sensation in the mouth. The Naga Bhut Jolokia, commonly known as ghost pepper, which is thought to be one of the hottest varieties in the world is grown in Sri Lanka and is commonly used in local cuisine to add a touch of spiciness and to bring out the flavor of food.

Capsicums are high in vitamin C, potassium, magnesium, and iron, and are a good source of vitamin B6, carotene, and iron. The ability of capsicum to reduce the incidence of stroke and cancer is being studied extensively.

We at U & H Lankafood Exports are dedicated to delivering the best, farm fresh, Sri Lankan capsicum right to your doorstep.
