    Danbala

                Danbala (Psophocarpus tetragonolobus), also known as the Goa bean, Asparagus pea, Four-angled bean, and Winged pea, is a tropical legume plant which grows abundantly in hot, humid equatorial countries with high rainfall -like Sri Lanka.

                The bean pod is typically 15–22 cm long, and has four wings with frilly edges running lengthwise. The skin is waxy, and the flesh partially translucent in the young pods. Danbala as it is called in Sinhala, offers an abundance of essential nutrients, including protein, complex carbohydrates, the B vitamins, calcium, iron and fiber. Low in sodium, one-half cup of Danbala contains about 126 calories.

                This bean has been called the "one species supermarket" because virtually all of the plant is edible. The beans are used as a vegetable, but the other parts including the leaves, flowers, and tuberous roots are also edible.  The young leaves can be picked and prepared as a leafy vegetable, similar to spinach. In Sri Lanka, Dambala pods are fried and made into a salad, garnished with onions, garlic, chillie powder, curry leaves, salt, and maldive-fish.
