The papaya, papaw, or pawpaw is the fruit of the plant Carica papaya, the sole species in the genus carica of the plant family Caricaceae. It is native to the tropics of the Americas, and according to research & study was first cultivated in Mexico several centuries before the emergence of the Mesoamerican classical civilizations.

The fruit is ripe when it feels soft and its skin has attained amber to orange hue.

Papaya is deliciously sweet with musky undertones and a soft, butter-like consistency.

Once considered quite exotic, they can now be found in markets throughout the year. Although there is a slight seasonal peak in early summer and fall, papaya trees produce fruits year round in Sri Lanka

The fruit, as well as the other parts of the papaya tree, contain papain, an enzyme that helps digest proteins. This enzyme is especially concentrated in the fruit when it is unripe.

Papain is extracted to make digestive enzyme dietary supplements and is also used as an ingredient in some chewing gums.

Papayas can be used as a food, a cooking aid and in traditional medicine. The ripe fruit of the papaya is usually eaten raw with or without skin or seeds. The fruit also can be consumed cooked usually in curries, salads & stews.

There is a significant demand for Papaya in the export market & U & H Lankafood Exports has been a major export supplier of fine quality papayas to the world for a considerable period of time & we continue to do so to assure complete global consumer satisfaction
