    What is Avocado?

The avocado (Persea americanna) is locally called ‘butter fruit’, but in the western hemisphere it is popular as ‘alligator pear’. An avocado is green-skinned and has a fleshy body that may be pear or egg-shaped. A widely consumed fruit in Sri Lanka, avocadoes are commonly grown in home-gardens of the wet zone of the country.

The fruit is not sweet, but rich and distinctly yet subtly flavored and has a smooth, almost creamy texture. We at U & H Lankafood Exports with our years of expertise in exporting avocadoes, guarantee the delivery of avocadoes while the preserving their original gastronomical qualities.

Avocados are also a good source of fiber, potassium, and vitamins C, K, folate and B6. Half an avocado has 160 calories, 15 grams of heart-healthy unsaturated fat, and only 2 grams saturated fat. One avocado globe contains more than one third of the daily requirement of vitamin C, and more than half the daily requirement of vitamin K. Medicinally, it is known for reducing cholesterol levels in blood.

Generally, avocado is eaten raw, scooped out with or in chunks, drizzled with a little olive oil, balsamic vinegar, pepper and salt. It is also cubed alongside shrimp in salads, added to coconut milk soup, blended into a smoothie or is mushed up in salad as a dressing.
