    Honey Dew Melon

Oval shaped, 15cm to 22cm in diameter, and approximately 1.8 kg to 3.6 kg in weight with a waxy surface, the Honey Dew Melon, botanically called Cucumis melo, is also known as Cantaloupe or Bailan Melon.

In Sri Lanka, Honey Dew Melons are cultivated in hot and sunny areas where the soil is fertile and well drained.  The best Honey Dew Melon crops can be harvested during the “Yala” season or the dry season with the help of irrigation.

The Honey Dew Melon begins its life with a green skin which gradually turns yellow as it ripens. This melon variety contains an edible pale green or orange thick inner flesh that will tingle your taste buds with its sweet and juicy flavors.

Mostly Honey Dew Melons are consumed raw and can also accompany other fruits, such in salads. It’s sweet juice is a remarkable thirst quencher and adds a vibrant pink to mocktails.

The Honey Dew Melon is one of those unique fruits that is low in saturated fat, cholesterol and sodium, and yet is high in vitamin C, vitamin B6, folate and potassium, which means consuming Honey Dew Melons will help you overcome high blood pressure, skin disorders, and other circulatory system related complications.
