    What is mango?

    A mango is a fleshy stone fruit belonging to the genus Mangifera. More popularly known as the ‘king of fruit’, it belongs to Anacardeaceae family of trees. In Sri Lanka, it is very rare to find a home garden without a mango tree since the tropical climate of Sri Lanka provides the perfect growing conditions for mangoes all year round.

                Mangoes really can make you feel better, rich in vitamins, anti-oxidants and minerals -mangoes contain an enzyme with stomach soothing properties like that of papayas. Mangoes are also an excellent source of Vitamins A and C, as well as a good source of Potassium and contain beta carotene. Thus, if you eat a mango-a-day, irregularity will not be a problem, and you will be spared of any preoccupation with constipation, piles and spastic colon.

    Mangoes are consumed as ripe and unripe fresh fruit as well as various processed products. Pickles and chutneys are made from unripe mangoes. Different types of drinks, jams, jellies are prepared using ripe mangoes. Likewise, dried and dehydrated mango pieces and mango powder are also available in the market.

    At present Sri Lanka approximately exports about 80,000 Mt. of mangoes annually. U & H Lankafood Exports as one of the leading exporters of value added finest quality food products in Sri Lanka contributes significantly to this quota.
