    What is passion fruit?

The nearly round or ovoid fruit,  1 1/2 to 3 inches wide, has a tough rind, smooth and waxy; ranging in hue from dark-purple with faint, fine white specks, to light-yellow or pumpkin-color. The purple passion fruit (Passiflora edulis), is adapted to the coolest subtropics or to high altitudes in the tropics, while the golden passion fruit (p.edulis f. flavicarpa) is more suited to tropical lowland conditions. In Sri Lanka, both purple and yellow passion fruits are grown commercially and we at U & H Lankafood Exports with our years of expertise have been exporting them around the globe satisfying many a customer.

Fresh passion fruit is high in beta carotenepotassium, and dietary fibre. Passion fruit juice is a good source of ascorbic acid (vitamin C) and good for people who have high blood pressure.

Fresh passion fruits are cut in half and the succulent pulp is scooped out with a spoon for mixing with other fruits in making a salad. The extracted juice is a tasty drink. The beauty of passion fruit is that just a little pulp goes a long way. Cake icing, candy, ice cream, jelly, mousses, sauces, sherbets, syrups and pies are some of the value added products made out of passion fruit.
