    Yellow Bell Pepper

Bell pepper belongs to the species of Capsicum annum. The plant produces fruits of different colors including red, yellow, orange and green. The bell pepper originated in South America and was introduced to the rest of the world by Spanish conquerors who brought back the seeds of the plant to Spain. Botanically considered a fruit, it is treated as a vegetable in the culinary world.

As the name suggests yellow bell peppers are yellow in color. It is not as sweet as the red variety but tastes sweeter and less pungent than the green variety. In Sri Lanka yellow bell peppers are grown throughout the year.

One medium sized yellow bell pepper contains 25 calories which makes it a great snack for anyone who is keen about maintaining a trim waistline. Bell peppers are rich in Vitamin C and one serving provides an impressive 190% of the daily requirement of the nutrient.

Yellow bell peppers can be eaten raw as a side dish or sautéed, stuffed or grilled and served with meat or fish. They are also dried and crushed into a powder commonly known as Paprika.
